Ousting an Incumbent

When Erie County Legislator Tim Kennedy decided to run for State Senate in New York, he knew he had a challenge before him. Namely, to supplant a 28 year incumbent in the September 2010 primary election. Using television commercials and direct mail pieces, Kennedy won with over 60% of the vote. For the general election, Kennedy was facing a popular Republican opponent and again used new television commercials and a slew of mailers to move from down in the polls to victory on Election Night.
